In my junior year at design school, I started working at the Portland State Vanguard. I was hired as a production designer/illustrator and quickly moved to lead designer. In the last term of my senior year at PSU, I stepped up to the role of Creative Director. This position has turned out to been the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had.
In my time at the Vanguard, I’ve gotten to work with some really talented writers, editors, designers, and all around great people. The experience I’ve obtained from my time here has been not only precious, but valuable as well.
It taught me how to work with writers in order to bring context to articles, how to manage a team of creative people, how to work with non-designers to create engaging covers, and challenge myself to do it all in three days every week.
